Vacuum degree and applicable scope of common pump

In chemical design, vacuum pump is one of the commonly used equipment. There are many kinds of vacuum pumps, and how to select the vacuum pump is a problem that needs to be solved in the design work. Understanding the vacuum degree and scope of application of commonly used vacuum pumps can help to select vacuum pumps in the design.

1) The liquid ring pump is a rough vacuum pump. The gas compression in the liquid ring pump is isothermal, so it can be used to pump out flammable and explosive gases, and can also be used to pump out dust and water-containing gases. Limited by the saturated vapor pressure of the working liquid, the vacuum degree is low. Using water as working fluid, the limit vacuum is 2000~4000Pa; Using oil as working fluid, the limit vacuum is about 130Pa.

2) The rotary vane pump is an oil-sealed mechanical vacuum pump. It can be directly started from atmospheric pressure pumping can be used alone low vacuum pump, can also be combined with other high vacuum pumps as a pre-pump, small size, light weight, low noise, especially suitable for laboratory use, the pump can not be used to pump oxygen too high, toxic explosive or with the pump oil chemical effect or corrosive to ferrous metal gas. Ultimate vacuum <1.3Pa.

3) The slide valve pump is an oil-sealed mechanical vacuum pump, which is commonly used in large vacuum equipment. It has the characteristics of high vacuum, low noise, less vibration, long life, and not easy to leak oil. It can be used to pump high temperature, Slight dust and corrosive gases, especially mixed gases containing a small amount of water vapor. Divided into single-stage and double-stage two types. The limit pressure of single-stage pump is s0.6Pa for small pump, s1.3Pa for large pump (both closed gas town), and s0.06Pa for double-stage pump (closed gas town). Valve pumps with pumping speed greater than 150L/s mostly adopt single-stage type.

4) Roots pump is a variable volume vacuum pump. It is characterized by fast start-up, less power consumption, low operation and maintenance cost, large pumping speed, high efficiency, insensitive to a small amount of water vapor and dust in the pumped gas, large pumping rate in the pressure range of 100~1Pa, rapid removal of suddenly released gas, no need for oil lubrication, and rotating speed as high as 3450 ~ 4100r/min; The pumping rate is 30 ~ 10000L/s. Ultimate vacuum: single-stage pump is 6.5x 102Pa, double-stage pump is 1x103Pa.

5) The diffusion pump is a momentum transfer pump. It is characterized by the availability of high vacuum for vacuum coating, space simulation experiments and vacuum systems that are not sensitive to oil contamination. The ultimate vacuum is 10-4~10-5Pa.

6) Reciprocating pump is a variable capacity vacuum pump, which can be divided into dry type and wet type. The range of pumping capacity is large, up to 15 ~ 5500L/s, and the pumping efficiency is not high. It is not applicable to the extraction of corrosive gas or gas containing small particles. If the gas to be extracted contains particles, a filter must be installed at the inlet. The ultimate vacuum of single-stage pump is about 400~103Pa, and that of double-stage pump is about 1Pa.
